The skulls of premature babies and infants are still very malleable and therefore susceptible to skull deformities, some of which can only be corrected with stressful helmet therapy. By now, the incidence of cranial deformities in premature babies is 51.1% for plagiocephaly; 85.1% for brachycephaly and 3% for dolichocephaly (1).

During long inpatient stays, hospitals should provide care to prevent skull deformities so that young patients do not leave the hospital with consequential damage.
